CSU, Chico’s first Internet auction features fully performancetested
yearling Angus and Red Angus bulls, and a select group
of yearling heifers. The cattle are sired by outstanding A.I.
sires – breed leaders in balanced performance.
For the past 20 years, the beef program at CSU, Chico, has
been emphasizing problem-free cattle. Selection has been
first and foremost on fertility and calving-ease, followed by
balancing growth and carcass traits. The cattle are the result of
an extensive artificial insemination program, carefully focusing
on improving economically important traits.
Bulls are currently being fed a moderate ration at the CSUC Farm.
A comprehensive health program, including anaplasmosis and
BVD PI negative testing, is currently in place.
Students are involved in all aspects of the production and
management of the cattle. Beginning with planning the
A.I., breeding the cattle, calving, weaning, feeding and
performance records – students are the center of the
educational experience.
